Linking an external directory (folder) to a TSL dossier

Linking an external directory (folder) to a TSL dossier

Initial situation

It can happen that one wants/needs to store data (documents of various kinds) in the office which are important but not useful or suitable for use in a database. Music or video files, for example, can become extremely large (100Mb, 1GB, or more) and would very quickly bring the system database to its limits, apart from the loading times on the end stations. Therefore, the data size that can be stored in the database via TSL is limited to 50 MB by default. Nevertheless, it can be useful to have direct access from a dossier to data that needs to be stored externally.

Files larger than 50MB cannot be stored in the timeSensor LEGAL database. However, it is possible to link an external directory to a dossier.

Solution

Link any folder from a directory available in the office to the dossier (or the client folder). Dossier links generate a "link" to an external folder that opens when you click on the icon shown below.

Clicking on the folder link opens the corresponding folder in the Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac). To link any folder to a dossier, simply drag and drop the folder onto the toolbar of the desired dossier (or the mandate folder). The link icon shown appears immediately.

Tip: In order for a law firm to have joint access to data outside the database, a jointly available directory must of course be linked to the dossier. For example, if you create a directory on your data server that is accessible to all employees and create folders there for selected clients to store video files, these can be opened by all employees with one click.
