timeSensor Installer for Windows

Introduction

Connecting to the timeSensor LEGAL 365 database requires using a timeSensor 365 client. This article describes the installation process of the timeSensor 365 client for Windows computers.

Preparation

First, check if the workstation meets the system requirements and if the anti-virus software is configured correctly. Only proceed when you are sure this is the case.

Installation of the client application

After the download, the installer should appear by default in your "Downloads" folder – or wherever you saved it.
Warning
The installer should be run by an administrator or administrator credentials must be provided to confirm the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
Follow the instructions below to continue with the installation:
  1. Double-click the installer you just downloaded and click "Yes" at the Windows security prompt (enter administrator credentials if necessary).
  2. Select the language in which the installer should be displayed and click "OK".


  3. Accept the terms and conditions by clicking "I agree".
  4. In our case, we are installing the timeSensor 365 client. Select the correct component and click "Next".
  5. Select the path where the timeSensor client should be installed. The default path is C:\ProgramData\timeSensorProgram. However, to prevent the automatic update process from failing due to insufficient rights, we recommend changing the path and installing the software in C:\Users\Your_Username\timeSensorProgram. Click "Browse" to change the path (a new window to select the target folder will open), then click "Install".
    WarningNote for IT administrators: The installation path of the timeSensor client plays a crucial role for the functionality of the automatic update mechanism. Therefore, the software must be installed in a folder where users have full rights, as users will run the updater themselves.


  6. The download starts. Depending on your internet speed, the process can take a few seconds up to about 10 minutes. Once the process is complete, you can close the installer with "Close". A shortcut has now appeared on your desktop.

Requirements for smooth operation

When working with timeSensor LEGAL 365, the timeSensor LEGAL 365 client communicates continuously with the cloud database. This requires a flawless network and internet connection with sufficiently low latency to the server.
Idea
If in doubt, check the connection to the cloud database with a PING test.
For smooth operation in the software, PING times of less than 20 ms are required.

We strongly recommend that workstations (including laptops) are connected via Ethernet when working with timeSensor LEGAL 365. Wi-Fi is often not robust enough for a database connection, and even small instabilities can lead to connection losses with the cloud database.

Make sure that the workstation does not enter sleep mode (which interrupts the network) by setting the corresponding option in the power settings to "never".

The timeSensor LEGAL 365 client communicates with the cloud database via ports 19812, 19813, 19814 over TCP and/or UDP (depending on your database configuration). In case of connection problems, please check if these ports are open.

First connection to the cloud database

  1. Start the timeSensor 365 client using the desktop shortcut created by the installer. After a few seconds, an error message "Failed to connect to timeSensor..." appears. Click "Select...".
  2. Switch to the "Custom" tab. Enter a project name of your choice (make sure to always use the same one), followed by the hostname of your database, which you received from timeSensor (usually in the format abc-def.timesensor.com). Then click "OK".

    The client remembers these settings, and you will not be prompted to enter them again.
    InfoIf you need to display this window again, for example in case of connection problems, you can do so by double-clicking the timeSensor client shortcut on your desktop and immediately holding down the "Alt" key on your keyboard. The window opens in the background, but you can show it by clicking the icon in the taskbar.
