Back
In various places within the timeSensor LEGAL 365 software, you can trigger an email message. For example, in a Case Folder, by clicking the email Icon, a new Outlook message can be generated, which tSL automatically populates with the recipient's address and the Invoice Reference. This works by tSL creating a .eml message on your Disk/SSD and then instructing the Operating System to open the message—similar to double-clicking a file.
Possible problem and causes
It can happen that Windows throws an error message instead of opening the email file. For example, Adobe Reader opens and complains that it cannot handle the file.
Typical causes include that during an Installation or update of Adobe Reader or Acrobat, file associations were taken over, or that Adobe was accidentally chosen via "Open with" and "Always use this app" was checked. It is also possible that Outlook did not register itself as the Default for .eml files, for example after an Office repair or when switching between classic and new Outlook.
Solution
This is how you can fix it:
- Right-click the .eml file, then Open with and Choose another app.
- Select Outlook and click Always or Always use this app to open .eml files.
- Alternatively, you can go through Settings... → Apps → Default Apps. Search for .eml at the top and assign Outlook.
If Outlook is missing from the list, you can directly select classic Outlook via "Look for another app on this PC". The file is usually located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE.
