What are the System Requirements for timeSensor LEGAL 365

Our license agreement stipulates that timeSensor LEGAL may only be used with a suitable and compatible environment. This includes both computer hardware as well as operating systems and necessary additional programs such as anti-virus software. The following operating conditions are binding for all licensees of timeSensor LEGAL.

Windows Workstations

  1. Operating System
    1. Windows 10 (64-bit version) or Windows 11
    2. Windows Server 2019 - 2022
  2. Processor
    1. min. 4 Core
  3. RAM
    1. min. 8 GB
  4. Screen resolution
    1. min. 1920 x 1200
  5. Support for long path names enabled
Install the timeSensor Client with the timeSensor Installer for Windows and then configure the exceptions for your anti-virus software. Note that the timeSensor Client must be able to update itself. Therefore, install the timeSensor Client separately for each user in a directory where the user has full read/write permissions.

macOS Workstations

  1. Operating System
    1. macOS Ventura (13) - macOS Sequoia (15)
    2. recommended: macOS Sonoma (14)
  2. Processor
    1. min. 2 Core
  3. RAM
    1. min. 8 GB
  4. Screen resolution
    1. min. 1600 x 1024

Anti-Virus Software

Please refer to our article on the use of anti-virus software.
  1. Under macOS, we advise against installing an anti-virus program. Apple develops macOS with a number of integrated security mechanisms, including XProtect, Gatekeeper, and System Integrity Protection (SIP). These are specifically tailored to the architecture of macOS and already provide good basic protection against most threats. An additional anti-virus tool often leads to a duplication of functions that is not necessary and can make the system rather unstable.
  2. Under Windows, an anti-virus program is mandatory. Use exclusively Microsoft Windows Defender for this, as timeSensor LEGAL has been tested with this software. Be sure to enter the necessary exceptions for the anti-virus program so that the functionality of timeSensor LEGAL is not impaired.

Internet Connection

timeSensor LEGAL 365 is a cloud-based software, so you need a well-functioning Internet connection to work with the software. The working speed you perceive depends on several factors:
  1. Latency
  2. Bandwidth
  3. Quality and stability of the connection
The Latency indicates how much time data packets need to travel from your workstation over the Internet to the server. It is measured in milliseconds and can be measured with the PING command. Various factors influence latency:
  1. Network technology (copper cables, Wi-Fi, fiber optic)
  2. Spatial distance of the locations
  3. Number of hops (routers, switches, firewalls) between locations
Optimal latency times are in the single-digit range. Good latency times are 10-20ms, moderate latency times are 20-30ms, and poor latency times are over 30ms. If your latency is over 30ms, there may be a misconfiguration and you should contact your IT support. From 60ms, it can no longer be guaranteed that the connection will be established or function error-free permanently.

The Bandwidth is less important than latency. You can also work smoothly with a relatively small bandwidth and good latency. On the other hand, a high bandwidth is useless if the latency is too high. Bandwidth mainly benefits document processing, for example when you double-click large Word documents in the document management and they are transferred to your computer. At a minimum, you should have a download of at the office 100 Mbit/s and an upload of 50 Mbit/s have. Ideal bandwidths are 200 Mbit/s or better.

The quality and stability of the connection is also of high importance. If you load a web page and packet loss occurs (i.e. one or more data packets are lost), an image may be missing on the web page and you simply reload the web page. With a transaction-oriented relational database, operations cannot simply be repeated, otherwise inconsistent data, duplicate records, etc. result. The client application therefore responds to such disturbances by terminating the connection. The quality of the connection is strongly influenced by the type of connection:
  1. Cable Internet is unsuitable
  2. ADSL/VDSL/SDSL is better
  3. Fiber optic is recommended
How to perform an Internet speed test can be seen in the video attached below.

InfotimeSensor LEGAL 365 also works with slow latency and limited bandwidth, but the working speed is then significantly slower. Therefore, it is worth providing a good Internet connection. Avoid Wi-Fi because the radio link is a latency eater. If you are connected to the Internet by cable, you will work much more comfortably. You can check your Internet connection withSpeedtestcheck.
